CURAÇAO FIELD NOTES
Dolphin Swim in Curaçao: Plan Your Lagoon Visit

A dolphin swim needs a different kind of preparation from a beach afternoon. Before choosing a session, decide who wants to enter the water, who would rather watch and whether everyone understands the activity. Dolphin Academy describes Dolphin Swim as an interaction with trained dolphins in its lagoon. It is not an excursion to search for wild dolphins offshore.[17]
This guide is about that specific swim, rather than Dolphin Encounter, Dolphin Snorkel or an open-water dive. Those names describe different experiences. Keeping the name clear in your enquiry helps avoid a disappointing mismatch, especially when several members of a family want different levels of water involvement.
Understand the time in the water
Dolphin Academy lists an overall experience of about an hour and a half, with 30 minutes in the water. The operator provides mandatory swim fins and includes Sea Aquarium admission for the participant.[17] Treat the remaining time as part of the visit, not as more swimming time. Allow room around the session for getting ready, changing and following staff instructions.
The published Curaçao Activities description says swimmers receive an introductory explanation and use the signals demonstrated by the trainers.[1] Listen to that briefing rather than arriving with a particular pose or interaction in mind. An animal experience should not be planned like a guaranteed photo sequence. The operator, staff and animals determine what happens during the session.
Check swimming confidence before choosing
The current listing requires participants to be able to swim with fins; Dolphin Academy also states a minimum height of 1.30 metres and excludes participation during pregnancy.[1][17] These are meaningful participation conditions, not details to work around after arrival. Ask the provider to confirm the complete requirements for every guest, including children, before making a commitment.
A person who enjoys standing in shallow water may feel differently when swimming alongside an animal. Explain your actual comfort level when enquiring. Do not treat staff presence, supplied fins or an encouraging description as a substitute for the required swimming ability. If someone does not want to swim, ask about observing or a separately suitable experience rather than persuading them into this one.
Arrange the observer's day too
Dolphin Academy says observers, including parents or guardians who sign waivers for minors, must pay Sea Aquarium admission. Participant admission and observer admission therefore should not be assumed to work the same way.[17] Give the provider separate numbers for swimmers and observers when requesting the total cost.
Photography needs the same distinction. The operator allows family and friends to photograph from observer areas but does not allow participants to bring a camera into the water. Professional pictures are offered separately, not included in the experience price.[17] Leave yourself free to follow instructions instead of trying to manage a phone during the swim. Ask how photographs are purchased if they matter to your group.
Keep the rest of the day flexible
Make the confirmed session your main appointment. A meal and unhurried time to change are more useful companions than another tightly timed water activity. Aquarium admission may give you a reason to stay longer, but check that day's opening hours and activities rather than assuming every presentation fits around your swim.
Bring swimwear, a towel and dry clothes, with a secure place for belongings. Ask about the operator's sunscreen instructions before entering the lagoon. Confirm the arrival location and check-in time independently of the advertised session time. Hotel transport is not assumed in this guide; arrange both directions after you receive the meeting instructions.
Questions worth sending in one message
Include your preferred date, swimmers' ages and heights, swimming confidence and number of observers. Ask for the final quote, what happens if the experience changes, and the cancellation terms before paying anyone. If animal care or training practices affect your decision, put those questions directly to Dolphin Academy; this guide does not certify welfare standards or make rescue claims.
Curaçao Underwater Tours provides an independent information page and an enquiry route, not a confirmed reservation or a claim of an authorized partnership.
